Things I enjoy doing (Besides programming :-)

Of late, most of my time is either spent at work, or working on one of my projects. However I do find time for some non-programming activities.

Computer Gaming

I love playing most kinds of computer games, mostly favouring the strategy, RPG and racing genres. While in college, I used to spend most of my waking hours playing at the computer. But now, I play barely get to play for a 2 or 3 hours a week.

Some of my favourite games are:

Infact one of the things that actually got me onto programming was my attempt to cheat at Gorillas. And my brother still doesnt know how i beat him so much at the game :)

For a programmer, an appetite for reading is a very good trait to have. Helps keep you up to date with all the new technologies, methodologies, and ideas floating around.

Most of my reading involves randomly browsing wikipedia, for a variety of themes ranging from astrophysics to the roman battle formations. Basically anything that I happen to find interesting at that moment.

Among fiction, I love to read science fiction. Issac asimov, H.G. Wells, Poul Anderson and Stephen Baxter are some of my favourite authors.
Some of my favourite books:

Creative Writing

"I write entirely to find out what I'm thinking, what I'm looking at, what I see and what it means. What I want and what I fear."
Joan Didion

I find that it makes one more aware of what has happened when we write our experiences down. You began to realise what you are doing wrong, what you should correct and what you are good at. And it also helps as a handy reference to your state of mind at any point in the past.

Besides that, I have also written the random story, poem, and a few articles on various current events.

The title creative writing might seem slightly inappropriate here, since i donot write much fiction. But i chose that name because just "writing" seemed as if i liked calligraphy or something.

Basket Ball

This sport was probably the reason why I didnt end up like a typically out of shape geek. We had a bball court in college, and i think i spent as many hours there as I spent in the computer labs. I used to play shooting guard, and while I wouldnt scare Kobe, I did have a mean jump shot.

Even though I enjoyed playing basket ball, I didnt really catch on to watching it on TV. So I dont have a favourite team or player, as such.

Normally, I donot care much for any sort of music, but since my brother is a budding musician, I get to listen to music from all sorts of genres, and even have tried my hand at various instruments.

I can play a few songs on the guitar, piano and the drums, of which i found the drums the coolest... That is one instrument you can actually hit when you are frustrated with trying to play it. :)

For my listening pleasure, I have a rather conflicting choice. On one hand, I like rap music, especially eminem and D12 and on the other hand I like opera music (Andrea Bocelli, etc) and slow spanish numbers.
